Can a doctor be punished if they do not respond to my request for medical records?
Yes, a physician can be punished if they do not provide the medical records that you request within the legal time limit. Upon providing the request in writing a physician must provide copies of your requested medical records within 15 days. If they fail to do this, the Medical Board can follow up with the doctor to encourage them to provide the records, issue a fine, or even take action against the doctor’s medical license.
