What is medical canvassing?
Medical canvassing is one of the steps in an insurance claim handling process. It is a means to combat insurance fraud and involves canvassing the medical facilities, doctor’s offices, clinics, labs, physical therapy clinics, gyms, and more within a specified radius to obtain and pertinent medical records and information. Medical canvassing can be used to verify the insured or claimant’s statements about medical treatment, if they have claimed injuries in the past, and to obtain unknown treatment information or referral doctors that we not previously disclosed.
